INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police are investigating the Wednesday evening fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man at an east side apartment complex.

The location is very near where four young people were shot and killed one week ago. However, a public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said there did not appear to be a connection between this latest murder and last week's tragic events.

The victim was shot on Ellis Drive, near East 42nd Street and North Mitthoeffer Road.

There have been no arrests in the city's latest murder.

We talked to a neighbor who says he saw the victim on the ground, and did what he could to save his life.

"It's hard to see stuff like that. You know, I walk up this man's lying in the street," Steven Jones, the man who tried to save the life of the shooting victim, said. "I had to do what I had to do to basically stop his bleeding to save his life, and I shouldn't have to do that, you know what I mean?"

"I just hope all these people that say they want to help, do something," Jones said.

Police have not released any information about a suspect, but they say it is not related to last week's quadruple homicide.
