INDIANAPOLIS — Efforts by residents to get streetlights in their west side Indianapolis neighborhood are paying off.

City-County Councilor Jared Evans says streetlights will be installed in the neighborhood near South Lynhurst Drive and West Washington Street within the next two months.

Many Indianapolis residents have long complained about the dark streets they live and drive on. The city's response has been to say there isn't enough money to add more lights.

That is changing with the city's Operation Night Light. There are plans to to install up to 4,000 streetlights and paying for them with savings generated by converting existing lights to more efficient LED technology.

In the west side neighborhood, lights are coming to these streets:

  • Norfolk Street, 800-1000 blocks.
  • Manhattan Avenue, 800 block.
  • Biltmore Avenue, 800-1000 blocks.
  • South Worth Avenue, 1000 block.
  • Ingomar Street, 800-1000 blocks.
  • South Whitcomb Avenue, 1000-1100 blocks.

In all, 12 streetlights will be installed in the neghborhood.
