INDIANAPOLIS — When a man was fatally shot by police Friday night on the northeast side of Indianapolis, Flex Team officers were not wearing body cameras because they were not apart of a pilot program to test the cameras in the department.
A man was fatally shot by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Flex Team officers during a traffic stop in the 8500 block of East 42nd Street, Maj. Kendale Adams said during a press conference Friday night. IMPD Flex Team officers are primarily assigned to proactively pursue the city's most violent offenders.
In July, IMPD beat officers and supervisors, whose dedicated assignment is working the middle shift, which is from 1:30-10 p.m., in the north, east and southeast districts, began to wear body cameras in July for a 45 day trial period.

Even though IMPD Flex Team officers were working during the middle shift and working in the east district, they are not beat officers and were not apart of the body camera pilot program, IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt said.
As of Saturday afternoon, the identity of the man shot by police has not been released.
