INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was critically injured Friday night after she re-entered a house that was on fire on the northwest side of Downtown Indianapolis.

Firefighters were arrived at a house in the 1400 block of E. Lynn Drive at 6:41 p.m. Friday where heavy smoke was found coming from the house, according to information from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

They found a 24-year-old woman inside the house was unconscious. She has regained consciousness and was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Neighbors told firefighters they noticed smoke coming from the house and ran over to check on the woman. When they arrived, the woman was outside the house in the backyard covered in soot.

IFD said the woman told neighbors she had the fire under control and she went back into the burning house. Investigators do not know why she re-entered the house.
