INDIANAPOLIS – Two people were arrested in connection with a double murder that happened last weekend on Indy’s southeast side.

Indianapolis homicide detectives took 24-year-old Marquis Cracraft and 22-year-old Kalee England into custody on the suspicion of murder for their involvement in deaths on Cottage Avenue.

When police arrived Sunday, they found two men and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Eric Hoffman, 21.

The second man and a pregnant woman were both taken to the hospital. The man, identified as William Koenig III, 32, died from his injuries. The woman was listed as stable Sunday evening and is expected to be OK.

Neighbor Tanya Galan says she’s known the victims for years and what happened Sunday night was related to a dog that was killed earlier in the week.

Galan said police were at the home just days earlier for a dog that had been shot.

“(The dog) was just peeing and he just pulled out his gun and shot him twice in the chest,” said Galan. “I stood right here and watched him.”

Galan said the dog, named Petey, then walked into the home where he later died. She said Petey belonged to one of the men who was killed Sunday evening.

“He was a puppy, he was no more than 2 years old,” said Galan.

Police documents show officers responded to a home in the area for a report of a dog shot Thursday evening, but no arrests were made.

“We tried to do the right thing here – we see something, we say something – but we’re not being protected,” said Galan.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives have not said whether there is any connection between the dog that was shot and the shooting Sunday evening.

Erick Hoffman's girlfriend, Brittany Brown, continues to grieve.

"Eric was very loving," said Brown. "He loved his kid that we just had two and a half months ago - he loved his family. I just know that his child is gonna grow up now without a dad - and it's gonna be hard."
