Shooting occurs outside mosque in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — A suspect was killed after being shot by law enforcement officers outside the Masjid Al Iman Mosque in Fort Lauderdale on Friday morning just before noon.

The streets around the mosque were closed by authorities after the shooting, which happened in a parking lot, a Miami TV station reports.

A U.S. Marshal said the suspect was wanted for attempted murder. When he exited his vehicle in the parking lot, he was holding a gun, authorities said.

That was when members of the task force shot and killed him.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office issued the following statement:

"On May 23, 2019, at approximately 3:30 A.M. deputies responded to 4701 Luminous Loop in Kissimmee in reference to a report of possible shooting. When they arrived, deputies discovered a male and female victim with injuries who were transported to a local hospital. In the course of the investigation deputies learned that Hamid Ould-Rouis entered the residence when the two victims where inside. Ould-Rouis battered the male victim and attacked the female victim with a knife. The female victim is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

"Detectives were able to obtain probable cause and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Ould-Rouis for Attempted Murder. U.S. Marshals assisted in this investigation in trying to locate Ould-Rouis and bring him to justice. On 5/24/19, U.S. Marshalls made contact with Ould-Rouis in Broward County, FL. This is currently an active investigation."
