Buyer Announces Support For Thompson Candidacy

Indiana Republican Urges Former Senator, Actor To Run For President

U.S. Representative Steve Buyer, R-Ind., Wednesday announced his support for Republican Fred Thompson’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Buyer was among more than 50 current members of the U.S. House who met Wednesday with Thompson as he considers a run for the White House in 2008.

After the meeting, Buyer encouraged Thompson to formally enter the campaign and promised to help him succeed in Indiana.

“At a time when the country is split on so many issues, it beacons a man of leadership and vision,” Buyer said in a news release. “Fred Thompson is Presidential and has the ability to reach out and touch Americans and to lead us.”

Thompson, a former Republican senator from Tennessee and former actor on tv’s “Law and Order", has publicly expressed interested in running for president but has not formally announced his campaign.

Buyer represents Indiana’s 4th District in the U.S. House. The district covers parts of central and northern Indiana, including the Lafayette area.
