INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Congresswoman Susan Brooks (R-IN5) issued a statement Monday calling President Trump's inflammatory remarks toward progressive Democratic congresswomen on Twitter "inappropriate."

Brooks, who is retiring from Congress at the end of her term issued the following statement via Twitter.

"As Americans, there is more that unites us than divides us. The President's remarks to my colleagues across the aisle are inappropriate and do not reflect American values. ALL of our elected officials need to raise their level of civility in order to address the serious issues facing our country."

Trump used racist language on Sunday to attack progressive Democratic congresswomen, falsely implying they weren't natural-born American citizens.

The President tweeted, "So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly ... and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

Trump did not name who he was attacking in Sunday's tweets but earlier this week he referenced New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when the President was defending House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to CNN.

When asked during his American-made event at the White House Trump denied that the remarks were racist saying, "If somebody has a problem with our country, if somebody doesn't want to be in our country, they should leave."
