INDIANAPOLIS — President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will both be in Indianapolis for the National Rifle Association Annual Meeting on Friday which could impact your lunch hour and drive home.

Both Trump and Pence will be speaking at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Leadership Forum sometime Friday afternoon. The program begins at 11 a.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium but exactly when the President and Vice President are expected to speak has not been released.

The event is ticketed and is mostly sold out, but there are a few $10 seats still available online at the NRA INDY website. Because of the President and Vice President's attendance, firearms, firearm accessories, knives or any weapons of any kind are prohibited in the Forum.

Doors open at 8 a.m. for the forum.

When Trump and Pence come to town Friday afternoon and during their visit you can expect several traffic restrictions in place:

  • Delays will most likely be between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on eastbound I-70 and between 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for westbound I-70 closures.
  • Road closures of I-70 between I-465 and downtown are expected during the visit. Eastbound I-70 will be diverted to I-465 north and south, while westbound I-70 will be diverted to I-65 south or north.
  • Airport access will be uninterrupted, but access to I-70 west should be made via I-465 to I-70 westbound to the terminal.
  • Possible delays and closures throughout downtown Indianapolis could be in place through 6:30 p.m. depending on the length of the visit and convention situations.

You can follow the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Twitter account (@IMPDnews) during the day for up-to-date traffic and safety information.
