WAYNE TOWNSHIP — A tax referendum proposed to voters in Wayne Township was approved Tuesday.
The referendum will generate about $10 million for the next eight years for the school district.
District leaders say they hope to use the money for three different reasons: improving school safety and security, retaining quality teachers and continued support for current services and programs like Wayne Township Preschool and Ben Davis University.
A previous referendum for the district passed in 2015. It still has four more years remaining. The new one will run concurrently with the 2015 one.
"It's 35-cents per $100 of assessed valuation to continue to support the services we provide our children now,"
If your home's assessed value is $100,000, you will see a $115 annual increase or about $9.50 per month.
