INDIANAPOLIS — U.S. Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., called on local mayors and state governors to review law enforcement protocol, to make sure what happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis doesn’t happen anywhere else.

“I think that needs to be looked at because this repeats itself too often,” Braun said. “When it comes to the methods, the techniques, the protocols that involves all of these issues that have now broiled up into this, it’s the responsibility of mayors, governors and law enforcement across the country to figure out how to prevent this in the future so you’re not contending with what has erupted.

Braun also said the message of the peaceful protests could be overshadowed by the violence and vandalism.

“Clearly, the violence, the looting has been co-opted by an element that goes way beyond peaceful protests," Braun said. "It makes it a very complicated dynamic when it gets there.”
