INDIANAPOLIS — Department of Public Works crews were out filling potholes on West Street, between Morris and Washington, on Tuesday. But RTV6 has found out that they are still putting in a temporary solution.
One tire after another has been getting changed along Sam Jones Expressway near I-70, on the city's west side.
Each one with a flat on the driver's side, after hitting a pothole in the eastbound lane just after the bridge over the interstate.
"I was coming down the hill on Sam Jones, and halfway down the hill I hit a pothole," one driver, David Alms, said. "I felt something, the tire started rumbling."
Another driver, Taylor Monroe, said his tire pressure went down a couple of psi.
"I think I am good. I'll have to see once I get going faster there is damage," he said. "Luckily, I think I've survived it. It definitely needed addressed."
DPW says crews are filling potholes as fast as they can - but everything depends on the weather.
Crews first focus on major roads with more traffic. Although, due to the steady rain, they are still the temporary fix that is a cold mix.
They are hoping to get out and us hot mix asphalt later this week for more permanent repairs.
As for the Indianapolis Department of Transportation, they have two crews out in the Indianapolis area working on emergency repairs.
They have opened a hot asphalt plant, meaning their work will last longer. INDOT prioritizes their requests by first filling the potholes that are in a lane of traffic, and have caused a crash.
