INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Homeland Security Department wants the community to know it's ready to handle big crowds expected this week.

In addition to the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Downtown Indianapolis is scheduled for Friday.

Extra officers from various units will be on patrol. Police suggest you take steps to help protect yourself and your property.

"If you're leaving anything in your car, leave it hidden, put it in the trunk or something like that. Anything you leave that's kind of noticeable ... could be subject to a theft, and, again, just make sure you understand some of the venues have restrictions on what you can bring in and not bring in," Cdr. Tom Sellas, IMPD's Homeland Security, said.

Police say there are no targeted threats against any of this week's events.
