Stagehands Union Searched In Stage Collapse Investigation

Officials Say Union Declined To Provide Requested Information

State investigators Thursday searched the offices of the local stagehands union in connection with the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair.

The Indiana Department of Revenue confirmed that investigators served a civil search warrant at the offices of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, or IATSE, Local 30 on Indianapolis' near-west side.

IDOL spokesman Robert Dittmer stressed that the inquiry was not criminal in nature. He said investigators sought a search warrant after requests for information were denied by the union.

"To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation into the terrible tragedy at the state fair, no further information regarding the investigation will be released until the entire report is presented publically," Dittmer said in a statement.

Seven people, including an IATSE-affiliated stagehand who was working at the time, were killed when the main concert stage at the fairgrounds collapsed as stormy weather moved into the area Aug. 13.
