Man killed, woman injured when SUV and dump truck collide in Jennings County

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. -- A man was killed and a woman seriously injured after a crash between a dump truck and an SUV Friday morning. 

Indiana State police were called to the scene on County Road 700 West at State Road 7 in Scipio just after 8 a.m.

Investigators determined that the Kia SUV, driven by Justin Spears, 24, was traveling southbound on County Road 700 West when it went into the path of the Mack dump truck. The dump truck driver attempted tried to take evasive actions to avoid the collision but the two vehicles collided. 

Spears was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, an 18-year-old Scipio woman, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver of the dump truck was not injured. 

The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated and toxicology results are pending. 

The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
