Victim who died in Kokomo fire tentatively identified

UPDATE: The Howard County Coroner's Office has tentatively identified the person who died in the Feb. 15 house fire in the 1800 block of South LaFountain Street as Kevin Andre Jackson, 49, of Kokomo. The Coroner's Office has been in contact with the legal next of kin in Arkansas. Positive identification will take 30 to 60 days awaiting the results of DNA testing, the coroner's office said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however foul play is not suspected.

KOKOMO — One person has died after firefighters pulled two people from a burning home in Kokomo on Saturday afternoon.

Kokomo firefighters were called to the home in the 1800 block of S. LaFountain Street just before 5 p.m. for a report of a single-story residence on fire. They arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the house, according to Fire Chief Chris Frazier.

Frazier said two citizens attempted to rescue the victims from the fire but were unsuccessful. Firefighters pulled two people from the burning home. One person died as a result of the fire. The second victim was rushed to a local hospital and then taken to Indianapolis for treatment. Their condition is not known at this time.

No identities have been released at this time.

The two citizens were both treated and released at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
