INDIANAPOLIS — Residents at the Lakeside Pointe at Nora apartments have been dealing with leaks, mold, broken doors and broken heaters. On Monday, RTV6 learned that four buildings in the complex have been without hot water for weeks and the health department says the owner of the property is doing nothing to fix the hot water issue.

"People shouldn't have to live like that," Andrew Turley, who moved out of Lakeside Pointe over the weekend, said. "I ended up having to miss work because of the hot water issue because of not being able to shower."

The couple said that when their hot water went out in 2017, it took over five weeks before it was fixed.

"I'm curious what they're spending our rent money on," Turley said.

A spokesman for the Marion County Public Health Department says they have a pending housing order for no hot water and a water leak for four buildings at the complex. The warrant was first issued on March 14, and the health department followed up on March 28, filing the issue for the court that day when the problem still wasn't fixed.

"I was told that maintenance is working through all of the houses that we're dealing with cold water," Malik, whose last name RTV6 has chosen to conceal due to being a current resident, said. Malik's hot water stopped working on Saturday.

A spokesman from the health department said this is a case where the property owner is not doing what is required to fix the violation. Previously, the spokesman said the court could levy fines and determines consequences up to vacating the complex.

RTV6 has asked multiple times for an interview with management at Lakeside Pointe at Nora, including Monday afternoon.

The health department says the hot water problem is now in the hands of the court to determine any future action. Even when these health department cases are referred to court, it cans till take several months for resolution.

The hot water issue at Lakeside Pointe at Nora will go to court for the first time on April 30.
