INDIANAPOLIS — RTV6 met Jordan Williams at a neighborhood pub on College Avenue.

"I actually lived in Wisconsin for a number of years and decided to move back to Indy," Williams said. "Right now I work downtown and I live in this area."

IndyGo Red Line construction is restricting parking on College Avenue.

"I'm definitely aware of some of that. I feel like that's kind of just how many construction goes," Williams said.

Williams is one of several who gathered at the Pub on Monday - wearing red - to show support for public transit, organized by Transit Drives Indy. They're the coalition behind the 2016 Marion County Transit Referendum.

Lacey Everett argues that recent headlines don't tell the whole story.

"Right now we are in a construction phase and we understand that. When you have any type of construction it's a headache," Everett, a Mibor Realtor, said. "So what we're here doing, really, is just reminding the community that the majority of Meridian, Kessler, even in Midtown, voted in favor of the red line and in favor of the transit build out."

As part of a three-week look-ahead, IndyGo said construction work would move to the northbound lanes of Meridian next week, drivers getting shifted to the southbound lanes as crews get to work.

"Just like the Monon, just like the cultural trail, communities are grown stronger from better connectivity, not weaker," Williams said. "Having something like the Red Line would be a really nice way to get downtown."

Those against the project are planning what they're calling a "rally for neighborhood safety" on Tuesday afternoon at Central Avenue and 57th Street.
