INDIANAPOLIS — After police said speed played a role in a fatal crash Monday morning, some people who live in Irvington are raising concerns about safety.

Neighbors who live near North Arlington Avenue say speeding is only getting worse and they are hoping something will be done.

On Monday morning, one person was killed and one person was injured in a crash, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Speed is believed to be a factor of the crash.

"The speed limit is 35 and I'm pretty sure people go 45, 50," Katie Butler, an Irvington resident said.

Butler says people speeding has impacted where she goes on walks and lets her kids play.

"I'm not the only mom on this street," Butler said. "There are several families with preschool age kids and you don't ever see them playing in the front yard."

Some neighbors also say some people are using the middle turn lane to pass other drivers.

James Wilber says sometimes he is even nervous to cross the street.

"You have time to cross if cars are going the speed limit and in the lanes they are supposed to be in but you can't always see someone passing," Wilber said.

IMPD says officers working in the area will be watching for people speeding.

Police are asking residents who spot speeding or have traffic safety concerns to report them online.
