KOKOMO —A Labor Day shooting near a public park and it was captured on camera.

Only on RTV6, the woman who took the video describes what happened when she was out trying to enjoy an evening in the park with her children.

It was around 6:45 p.m. Monday and Shantel Droll had taken her kids to Studebaker Park. Her two year-old was playing basketball. Just moments later, she noticed something was wrong.

"Let's go back over here because they've got too much going on over there," Droll said on the video.

A group of men near the Dunbar Court Townhouses across the street began acting suspicious.

"My intuition was right," Droll said. "They just had a whole brawl and got to shooting."

Droll's video captured the horrific sounds of gunfire ringing out. The pregnant mother, her brother and her children were all running as fast as they could.

"You just never know because bullets don't have eyes," Droll said.

According to Kokomo police, approximately 30 shots were fired.

"It scared me because it was too close for comfort. It's too close to my babies," Droll said. "My son they don't know what's going on they don't know why we're running. They are looking like, 'what's that noise?'"

Kokomo police said two groups were firing at each other. Five men fled in a red pickup truck and led police on a high-speed chase. Officers were able to arrest them. No one was reported injured from the gunfire.

"We cannot do this by ourselves," Kokomo police Capt. Doug Stout said. "We need people to come forward and say something, help us take the community back and send a message that we will not tolerate this in the city of Kokomo."

Police said Droll did exactly what she should have done in that scenario — run for cover.

"I'm just glad that we made it home and I got to hug my babies," Droll said.
