INDIANAPOLIS — Hundreds of kids now have new winter coats to help them stay warm this winter.

Families lined up Saturday morning for a coat drive held by Creating A New Society, a local grassroots organization. They had 500 coats to give to families in need.

The idea for a coat drive started after the organization's founder, Ralphael Dorsey, said he bought coats for two men who were freezing outside a store with no coats.

Now, five years later, they are helping hundreds of children stay warm during Indiana's cold winters.

"It means a lot to the people," Dorsey said. "We are trying to come together and help them stay warm for the winter."

All the coats handed out were donated by family members, churches and members of the organization.

"This is something that is very near and dear to our hearts," executive director Nicole Glass said. "We are excited to give back to the community in such a way. Very grateful we have received so much love from the community."
