NOBLESVILLE — A Noblesville woman is hitting the streets with gloves and a trash bag to help keep her community litter free.
Christine Brewer says picking up trash in her community is a job she'll never finish as long as people keep reusing to find a trash can.
"I have done garbage walks since I've lived here," Brewer said. "At least twice a week."
She says cigarettes are almost always thrown any place but a trash can, and people are throwing them quicker than she can pick them up.
"If you ever see seating you know you'll find a bunch of them because people sit and smoke and just throw it on the ground," Brewer said.
Brewer says it's impossible to keep picking up all of the trash by herself and if there is no consequence, then there is no reason to stop.
"There has to be something that makes it less acceptable," Brewer said.
There is an ordinance in place to prevent littering, according to the City of Noblesville.
The new city administration says it now has two people dedicated to the downtown the area. Those individuals are currently building relationships with downtown business owners in an effort to enhance and preserve the area this includes removing litter.
