INDIANAPOLIS — One day after two teens were found shot and killed inside an apartment in Indianapolis, community leaders and members held a peace rally demanding better support.

Community members gathered at the rally asking for people who want to make the city safer to get involved and be apart of the change.

City-County councilwoman La Keisha Jackson (D-14) helped organize the event.

As police look for the suspect accused of killing Nicolas and Ashlynn Nelson, Jackson says people can't stay silent.

"Silence now is a problem for our city," Jackson said. "We need to stop being silent to those who are committing these crimes and think it's ok."

Pastor James Jackson also says more support and resources are needed to help make a difference on the east side.

"One of the things I think that we're missing is sufficient financial resources to scale up the work that's already being done," James Jackson said.

La Keisha Jackson agrees -- and says help from local, state and federal governments.

"It's something to live in fear and we should not have to live in fear - we should feel safe to go to the grocery store to go to events to go to our kid's school," La Keisha Jackson said.
