INDIANAPOLIS — Some neighbors are saying a school bus stop is dangerous after hypodermic needles were found next to a bus stop.
The bus stop, which is near a rundown property on the southeast side of Indianapolis, has become a hot spot for illegal activity, neighbors say.
On Monday morning as kids were getting ready to board the school bus, they saw the needles in front of the home.
"It's just ridiculous that the city won't listen to their own citizens and the mayor keeps saying how the hotline is doing so much work and this that and this and that's a bunch of bull," Robin Wood-Gebhart said.
Wood-Gebhart and Kattrina Conningham are part of the army of residents fighting to get this home, they call an eye soar, torn down.
The home, at the corner of Kelly and Harlan streets, caught on fire last year.
Conningham says she called 911 and the Mayor's Action Center about the needles this morning.
A spokesperson for the mayor's office said records show neighbors in the area have reported problems with the house 10 times this year, but they didn't know about the used needles until RTV6 brought it to their attention.
The mayor's office says the home has slated to be demolished since 2018, a project that could finally start by the end of this year or the early part of 2020.
"That's a joke we were told by the end of September, now we are told by the end of the year so at the end of the year I can be told oh maybe by March," Conningham said. "It needs to be done. To the point its not safe for my kids and when its gets to the point that our kids are in danger something needs to be done."
