INDIANAPOLIS — The site of a former Marsh supermarket in Broad Ripple that has sat vacant for more than two years has a new owner, RTV6 has learned.

Traders Point Christian Church purchased the site at Broad Ripple and North Keystone Avenues that neighbors said has attracted crime and vandalism.

Church leaders said they will announce later this month how they plan to use the old Marsh building.

According to Traders Point Christian Church's website, the church plans to expand to Broad Ripple this year, and they will operate out of a nearby temporary location until addition plans are finalized.

People who live and work in the area said they started seeing improvements to the building being made over the past few weeks.

Tony Hedlund, who operates Hedlund Hardware across the street, said any new development will be an asset to the neighborhood as long as the building is occupied.

"That is going to bring a lot of new people to this neighborhood that don't normally come to this neighborhood, so that is great," Hedlund said.

City-County Council member Keith Potts said it is important that vacated properties not become central locations for crime, and the new owners of the building could turn it into something that helps to grow and impact the community in a positive way.

"It is a prime piece of real estate and we want to make sure that whatever happens in the development, we want to make sure that it is done in an inclusive way that seeks out the feedback of our community," Potts said.
