INDIANAPOLIS — India Jones said her Christmas season has been ruined by leaking sewage and apartment managers who she said are in no rush to fix it.

The second you step foot in Jones and her father Frederick's Maple Creek Village apartment building on the west side, you are slapped in the face with an unbearable smell of human waste and your shoes sink into sewage-soaked carpet.

"The whole apartment is flooded out. It's feces and, I don't know, wipes or whatever are all in the bathroom," Jones said.

It started after a massive flooding incident late Saturday in the building's laundry room and then another massive overflow of raw sewage shooting up from Jones' toilet and bathtub, while Jones' two children were home on Christmas morning.

"It was a good morning until they was getting ready to leave and that's when the first sign of the toilet was shooting up water," Jones said.

Jones has taken her complaints to the apartment managers numerous times, but she feels they are not taking her seriously or showing any compassion for her father, who is recovering from lung cancer, yet is breathing in human feces that literally covers their apartment.

They asked for a temporary unit, but they have so far been offered no help. Jones and her family are now staying with her sister until the apartment's maintenance crew stops the flooding and cleans the mess.

"It's horrible. You shouldn't have to live like that. I don't care if you got insurance or not, because these apartment complexes are too big for you not to have an open space for these people on this first floor to go to," Jones said.

We took Jones' concerns to the Maple Creek Village leasing office, but after seeing an RTV6 reporter at the door, the worker appeared to hide behind a wall.

After reaching a staffer on the phone, we were told a crew was on their way to fix the issue. Jones said after days of waiting for the office to take care of the problem, she will believe it when she sees it.

"Because they're not concerned," she said. "But I bet we'll get a text on the phone about rent. I bet you that much."
