Working Together is a new WRTV initiative that focuses on telling impactful stories highlighting the wide range of cultures, areas and people that make central Indiana the place that it is. Through our Working Together initiative, we will share the stories of our communities and carry their voices forward. We’re Working for You by Working Together.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana donor recipients are working together to help keep those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic safe.

Jennifer Weber and Julia Rejer are both organ transplant recipients and working to help pay it forward.

"This is the only way I know how to say thank you is by giving my time," Rejer said.

They are both volunteering with the Indiana Donor Network to help make masks.

"I was kind of anxious about my healthcare workers and all people and all the people I rely on and I have gotten to know over the years, I wanted to really feel like I was helping out," Weber said.

Rejer has made more than 1,000 masks and found an alternative to elastic. She found an old sewing machine in her garage and is learning as she goes.

"I dug it out, turned it on, watched a few videos, and when I got stuck, I reached out to Julia," Rejer said.

Together, they are proving team work is what it takes and we can get through this when we work together.

The volunteers have made masks for workers at Ascension St. Vincent and Eskenazi Hospital.
