Nicole Griffin

Nicole Griffin is honored to anchor the evening news at WRTV in her hometown of Indianapolis.  Throughout the week, she co-anchors WRTV News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and anchors WRTV News at 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Nicole was born and raised on the west side of Indianapolis and graduated from Ben Davis High School. The former Giant developed her passion for broadcast journalism at the Area 31 Career Center’s BDTV program. She remembers covering the FDIC conference at Wayne Township Fire Department as a senior in high school.

Nicole went on to pursue her passion at Ball State University majoring in Telecommunications and Journalism. Her freshman year, Nicole also spent time on the sidelines, as a cheerleader, for the Ball State football and basketball teams.  As a student, she anchored and reported for Newslink Indiana, a nightly newscast that aired in Delaware County. She graduated from Ball State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and Journalism.

Nicole moved 10 hours away to begin her television news career. With her (now) husband Chris by her side, the two moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. She started her career producing and editing a 2-hour morning show at KOLN/KGIN 1011 News.  Her passion for telling stories and her drive to move up led her to a position in front of the camera as a multimedia journalist covering crime stories in Lincoln.

In 2017, Nicole and Chris were anxious to move closer to their families.  Nicole started at WRTV in April of 2017 as a reporter for Good Morning Indiana, just in time for all the fun the month of May brings at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Nicole was promoted to weekend news anchor in 2019, leading coverage of WRTV News 6 and 11 p.m.

In 2021, Nicole won an Emmy for Best Weekend Newscast. The winning newscast featured coverage of the social justice protests in 2020, following the death of Dreasjon Reed and George Floyd.

In the fall of 2021, Nicole was promoted to co-anchor the weekday evening newscasts alongside Marc Mullins.  After the pandemic, with fans by their sides, Nicole and Marc anchored WRTV’s coverage of Breakfast at the Brickyard at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2022.  Nicole takes pride in getting out into the community with her camera and sharing the stories of Hoosiers working to make a difference.

During the week, the former gymnast, dancer, and cheerleader loves to attend barre workout classes. On the weekends, she enjoys spending time with Chris and their families who live in the Indianapolis area.  She loves spending time by the pool, cooking on the grill, enjoying live music, or floating on a boat at Raccoon Lake - enjoying the Indiana sunshine.  Nicole is also a sports fan, including her Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers!
