In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — Nestled just off the Monon Trail on the corner of Ferguson and Coil streets in Broad Ripple, you will find a red building that is "Fire By The Monon."

Whether the real fire is burning out front, or the pork in the smoker, if you are in the area, you can follow your sense of smell, and it will lead you right there. If it does, let me tell you that you won't be disappointed.

In regular times, the large patio would be packed with people enjoying everything from soups and salads to sandwiches and fresh fish, to mac and cheese and homemade desserts. Oh, and there's a full bar with over 15 beers on tap.

However, since these are not "normal" times, owners, Joe and his wife Patricia, want you to know that they are still here for you.

Most of the menu is available, and they have even added "Family 4-Packs." There is plenty of parking right out front, so that is not an issue, and they will bring the food right out to you if you want.

If you are thirsty, bring your growler with you, and they will fill it. They also have carry-out cans of beer and wine bottles for $19.

You can find the whole menu at firebythemonontrail.com and call them at (317) 252-5920 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. If you are looking for some recommendations, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Still, Todd's Top Takes are the Nero Salad with Salmon, the Coop, and Tenderloin for sandwiches, and don't forget the Patricia's homemade Bread Pudding for dessert.

Soon the bike rack out front will be full, and the patio will be packed, but until then, keep supporting local restaurants like Fire By The Monon all across central Indiana.
