In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — If you haven't heard, having fun has been canceled until further notice due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb ordered Hoosiers to stay homeas the state and country continue to try and fight the spread of COVID-19.

Although, with the help of Metazoa Brewing Company, some fun may still be had in the comfort of Central Indiana homes.

The pet-friendly taproom is taking keg orders, growler orders, and four-packs of 16oz can orders — all of which come with DIY coloring pages featuring various animal illustrations of Metazoa's beer brands and a bag of dog treats from City Dogs Grocery.

"These coloring sheets can serve as a fun stress reliever for both adults and children alike during this uncertain time," Sarah Silcox, Metazoa's marketing manager, said. "(And) since we are no longer able to remain open for normal in-person service, we thought including a small package of dog treats with orders could be a fun way for people to bring a part of Metazoa home with them.

Metazoa is one of the small businesses that were able to not only keep their doors open but continue paying their employees.

"One of our top priorities is now, and will continue to be, taking care of the physical and financial health of our employees," Silcox said. "Being open during this time has afforded us the opportunity to not only keep all full- and part-time workers on the payroll, but also to see incredible support from a community who cares about our brewery, our mission, and our staff."

Drink Beer. Help Animals.

That's the slogan found behind Metazoa's mission. It's a mission their crew takes seriously every day and continues to see through with its 5% funding program that goes toward animal and wildlife organizations.

"We as a business have an obligation to both our customers who want our product, to the charities who rely on our 5% program for funding assistance and also to the employees whose families and livelihood depend on our business," Silcox said.

"With these unprecedented times, there are no perfect answers, but we feel that we have found the best balance for our business between providing employee and customer safety in the short-term and financial viability for our employees in the long-term," Silcox said.

Several business owners have adapted their business model to fit into these trying times, but with the continued support of the community, Silcox believes we will make it out of these uncertain times.

"We have been incredibly moved by the support of both our internal team and our customers," Silcox said. "And I know I can speak for our team, and perhaps all local breweries as a whole, when I say that we are all very much looking forward to sharing a beer together when this is all behind us."
