CAMBY — Heavy's Bar and Grill is once again filled with customers as restaurants begin to allow customers to dine inside for the first time in two months.

"It's honestly just been very busy, a lot of people in and out, a lot of people for lunch," Kyle Malott said.

While Heavy's pulled in a full crowd of loyal customers excited to return to the Camby sports bar, the staff is still taking the threat of the coronavirus seriously. Inside, each table is socially distant.

"Measured them all last night with a tape measure. They're all exactly six feet apart," Malott said. "Up to six people at a table and everyone has to be sitting down. Everybody is abiding by the rules so far, a lot better than what we thought."

Employees are wearing masks and gloves, even if their customers aren't, but Heavy's will also keep serving Hoosiers who aren't quite ready to dine inside with their party packs to go. The adult beverage kit has been a popular carryout item, providing the essentials for a stay-at-home party. Malott said Heavy's would have closed weeks ago if not for the idea.

"Our sales have really kind of bumped up a little bit," he said. "Obviously, its not what were used to with customers coming inside, but the party packs bumped us up on our sales and kind of gave us some breathing room, if you want to call it that."

In phase 2 of Indiana's reopening, restaurants can now welcome customers inside at 50% capacity. That's good news for this sports bar that is now counting on the community to make up for two months of slow business.

"If this would've continued on until July, I don't know if we would've made it to July," Malott said. "We would've tried our best. We would've fought tooth and nail, that's one of my mom's biggest things. She never gives up until the very end. But we are just happy to be open and see everybody is the main thing."
