In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Wine Market at Fountain Square is hosting a fundraiser to raise money to keep the fountains running properly.

It's a tasty way to cool off over Memorial Day weekend and to help maintain a staple of the Fountain Square neighborhood.

The Fountain Square Merchant's Association is responsible for up keeping the fountains on Virginia Avenue. With many of the neighborhood’s businesses being closed due to COVID-19, the events and other fundraising resources to help pay for maintaining the fixtures are not available.

The Wine Market at Fountain Square is one of few storefronts that stayed open during the state's mandated social distancing closures and guidelines. The restaurant has a walk-up window allowing them to offer more than 70 different bottles of wine, wine slushy kits, beer, and food options to-go.

Since their doors have stayed open, the owners of The Wine Market want to do their part to keep Fountain Square in it's best shape by hosting a fundraiser May 23-25 and May 29-31.

"Fountain Square wouldn't be what it is without the fountains," said Zachary Davis, co-owner of The Wine Market at Fountain Square. "So many people go down and take pictures all day, hang out in the area. We have programming and free concerts so we really need to come up with better ways to help make that sustainable and our small part, I think people will show up to help do so and make it possible. We are just a conduit to hopefully pass on the money."

Friday through Sunday, The Wine Market will donate $2 from each slushy sale and $1 from all other items to the Fountain Square Merchant Association to keep the fountains running. The business hopes to raise $5,000.

The Wine Market at Fountain Square is located at 1031 Virginia Ave. They are open everyday from noon to 8 p.m. for carry-out.
