GRANT COUNTY — Residents in Grant County are cleaning up after a tornado swept across the area on Memorial Day.

Acting EMA Director Bruce Bender says there were at least three or four homes that were "virtually destroyed" by the storm. No one inside those homes was injured.

Bender said the majority of the damage in the county was focused in the area near the intersection of State Road 13 and 600N. Multiple trees and barns were toppled in that area as well as downed power lines that cut power to hundreds of residents.

The exact number of outages and how long it will take to restore the power is unknown at this time.

The National Weather Service traveled to Grant County Tuesday morning to assess the damage and determined that an EF-2 tornado with winds up to 125 miles per hour caused the damage.

Storm damage was also reported in Pendleton, where the NWS confirmed that at least an EF-2 tornado had touched down and in Henry County where an EF-1 tornado was confirmed.
