INDIANAPOLIS -- Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is known for his talents on the football field, but there is speculation he could become the next Tennessee senator.

Business Insider politics reporter Joe Perticone said Manning is “indeed a possible 2020 senate candidate” in a tweet.

The news came after Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker announced he would retire at the end of his term.

According to Business Insider, Rep. Scott DesJarlais said Manning could replace Sen. Lamar Alexander in 2020 if he decided to retire as well.

"[Peyton Manning] is a great guy and a popular guy," DesJarlais said, Business Insider reported.

In March, while speaking at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, Manning addressed previous rumors of his involvement in politics.

"Last week I was going to run a team, this week I'm going to apparently run for Senate, and next week I’ll be an astronaut,” Manning said, via the Denver Post. “I have no interest in the political world, but would like to continue serving communities.”

But alas, a Politico reporter tweeted that Manning texted Corker and asked him to "stop fanning the flames". Whether or not that's a sarcastic poke at the news from Manning or a legitimate request is yet to be seen.
