SPEEDWAY — It's been a rough 24 hours for Chris Windom who crashed with David Malukas just one lap into the Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday.

Chris Windom's Indy Lights car suffered extensive damage after it drifted on the track, hit the wall and ended up riding on top of David Malukas's car.

Both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles and have since been cleared and released from the medical center.

Friday's crash was the second in just 24 hours for Windom who walked away from a harrowing crash Thursday night during the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Windom's car turned sideways on the front stretch and wound up flipping at least six times before it finally came to rest on its wheels. Windom managed to walk away under his own power.

"Very grateful to walk away from that one," Windom told the Associated Press.

The 28-year-old was making his Indy Lights debut in the Freedom 100 for Belardi Auto Racing with support from Jonathan Byrd Racing.
