INDIANAPOLIS — Sports betting took another step in Indiana Thursday, as it officially legalized online betting.

In-person sports betting began last month, allowing casinos to take game wagers. Indiana is the seventh state to allow the launch of legal online sports betting.

The state's first betting apps are being launched from Chicago-based 'Rush Street Interactive' and 'Draft Kings,' after receiving approval from the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The apps are partnering with Ameristar Casino in East Chicago and French Lick Resort.

All Indiana casino operators are planning mobile betting apps, but have not announced launch dates.

A report for the state gaming commission projects about two-thirds of sports bets will be done online within a few years.

Indiana's sports betting market could become one of the largest in the country, according to PlayIndiana.com.
