IUPUI women’s basketball team earns first-ever NCAA bid

INDIANAPOLIS — The IUPUI women’s basketball team will be going to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

The Jaguars won the Horizon League Championship with a 51-37 win over Green Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

IUPUI held a 12-point halftime lead, which got cut down to just 5 in the third quarter. Their defense held Green Bay to a scoreless fourth quarter, on the way to the victory.

Senior guard Holly Hoopingarner led the IUPUI scoring with 16 points, she was also named Most Valuable Player of the finals. Macee Williams added 13 points for IUPUI, and Rachel McElimore scored 10.

With the win the Jaguars get a berth in the NCAA field of 64 for the very first time, after playing in the WNIT postseason tournament the past four years.

The brackets and pairings for the NCAA Tourney will be announced next Monday.
