INDIANAPOLIS -- New guidelines released Tuesday at the 8th Annual Youth Sports Safety Summit in downtown Indianapolis are aimed at keeping kids safe while playing sports.

The guidelines cover creating emergency action plans for sudden cardiac arrest, catastrophic brain and neck injuries, exertional heat stroke, potentially life-threatening medical conditions, environmental issues such as lighting and access to medical services.

The task force who created the recommended guidelines was led by the National Atheltic Trainers Association and the Korey Stringer Institute.

“This document is the first of its kind specific to youth sports,” said Scott Sailor. “It will serve as a roadmap for policy and procedure recommendations at the youth sports level.”

The recommendations can be applied to any youth sports league.
