LOS ANGELES, CA — On the eve of the 2019 ESPY Awards the family of Purdue Superfan, Tyler Trent, accepted a humanitarian award commemorating Tyler's legacy.

The Trent family received the Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award at the 2019 Sports Humanitarian Awards held Tuesday.

"Our son reminds and inspires us to believe today, no matter where we are in our journeys, in our grief, or in our pain, there is hope," Tyler's father said in his acceptance speech. "Thank you for giving this award to our son, a young man who was animated by the hope he had in Jesus Christ, the unchanging hope that he possessed in his spirit 'while fighting in the game of life. in the end you will see, we will be the upset.'"

Trent was a fixture at Purdue football games and raised thousands of dollars for cancer research before his death on January 1. The award is given to members of the sports industry who make a difference in the world.
