INDIANAPOLIS — Construction is in full swing on a significant artery cutting through the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Binford Boulevard will undergo a $5.5 million project to improve the roads. But with any road work, drivers know traffic will be impacted.

Drivers have undoubtedly been stuck in a jam on Binford Boulevard within the last month since the construction began.

The major project is not only resurfacing the highly-traveled Binford Boulevard between 38th Street and 75th Street but also improving 16 different intersections along that stretch.

Crews say - weather permitting - the stretch could start being repaved as early as next week, with the entire project expected to wrap up by November.

"I think it's great! I think it'll be better, there won't be as many accidents," Sherrill Artis, a frequent driver of Binford Boulevard, said.

Gone are the days of crumbling curbs, new ones are being made for pedestrian safety.

Artis says the project will help with the confusion the section usually presents for drivers. "Some people are confused what to do over there, but now it’s all laid out, you know exactly what to do."

Despite the delays, some drivers are hopeful for what's to come.

"I think it's going to be a great improvement," Al Brown, another driver who frequents Binford Boulevard, said. "My wife always reminds me, 'look what it's going to be.'"
