INDIANAPOLIS — Just when it felt like spring had sprung, cooler temperatures have returned. The colder nights could be bad news for the trees and plants already budding out in your yard.
The National Weather Service tweeted out a message Thursday saying the growing season is officially underway across Central Indiana.
This means frost and freeze alerts will be issued when overnight temperatures fall near or below the freezing mark.
Several of those alerts may be issued over the next few weeks.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center calls for below to much below average temperatures through at least the later part of April.
Typically, our last freeze in Central Indiana happens in mid to late April. So, you may want to get in the habit of bringing your plants inside or protecting them at night with something like a sheet or pillowcase.
