Dangerous Cold: Warming centers open across central Indiana for those in need

With a Wind Chill Warning in effect for the state of Indiana and expected to reach -20 to -40 degrees on Wednesday, warming centers are opening in counties across the state.

It's important to remember that frostbite can happen in a matter of minutes when the temperatures get that low, and it is dangerous for any person or animal to spend any amount of time outside.

If you or someone you know needs a place to stay warm, here's a list of shelters available over the next few 24-48 hours.

Marion County

  • Indy Parks' Municipal Gardens (1831 Lafayette Road): Opens 10 a.m. Wednesday

Hendricks County

  • Brownsburg Fire Headquarters (470 E. Northfield Drive): 7 a.m.

Greene County

  • Linton Park East Shelter House: 6 p.m. Wednesday - 6 p.m. Friday
  • Linton Felowship Baptist Church: Open at least 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. each weekday

Wayne County

  • Rock Solid Ministries (1024 E. Main Street, Richmond): T-W-F 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Richmond Community Senior Center (1600 S 2nd Street, Richmond): 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday Only
  • Richmond Fire Dept. Station #1 (101 So. 5th Street, Richmond): 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Richmond Fire Dept. Station #5 (1971 W. Main Street, Richmond) 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Abington Fire Department (4618 Pottershop Road, Centerville)
  • Cambridge City Fire Department (127 W. Maple Street, Cambridge City)
  • Dublin Fire Department (2248 E. Cumberland Street)

Boone County

  • Boone County Emergency Management is asking the community to contact dispatch at 765-482-1412 if they need access to the warming center, they will then be given the shelter location.

Hamilton County

  • The City of Noblesville will open The Lodge at Forest Park as a temporary warming center. The Lodge at Forest Park will be open 8 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and again from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday morning. During the day, those in need of a place to get out of the cold are encouraged to visit the Noblesville Township Trustee Community Center, 372 S. Eighth Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
