High winds cause damage in Eaton

EATON — Residents in Eaton are assessing the damage after storms with high winds caused damage to several buildings Saturday night.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis office is working with the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency to determine the exact cause of the damage and wind speeds. Mike Ryan, a meteorologist with the NWS in Indianapolis, says, "All signs point to a localized area of strong straight line winds or a microburst." A microburst is a column of sinking air within a thunderstorm that results in very strong winds at the surface. There was no rotation on radar at the time. This and the orientation of the damage rules out the possibility of a tornado.

Meteorologists with the NWS are still working to determine how strong the winds were.

Residents reported damage to three homes, including one which lost its roof. Vehicles were also damaged in Saturday night's storms. You can see the photos in the gallery link below:
