INDIANAPOLIS -- We're closing out the month of May, and boy has it been a hot one!

The entire month played host to wearing shorts and flip-flops as much as possible and the hope that pools would open a little early.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says May 2018 will go in the books as the hottest May on record. That's pretty impressive, considering you have to go all the way back to 1871!  There weren't many breaks from the heat either.  25 days of the month reached 80 degrees or higher.  That's also a new record.  But wait, there's more!  Every day of the month reached at least 70 degrees.  It's the first time that's happened since 1896!

Other memorable May moments include the heat for the Indy 500.  We didn't quite make the race day record of 92 degrees, but we sure came close.  Our 91 degree high is good enough for second place.  We also kicked off the unofficial start to summer with our hottest May temperature in 107 years.  Memorial Day reached 95 degrees.

We will be diving into the June outlook in another update soon.  A quick glance suggests the heat of May will continue into early summer.
