When it comes to temperatures, March brought us several ups and downs. Overall though, the month ended up warmer than normal with 19 days of above average highs.
April is typically the month where it really starts to feel and look like spring across Central Indiana. Some trees and plants are already starting to wake up from their winter nap with pops of color. Our average temperatures also really start to take off. We go from an average high of 58° on April 1st to nearly 70° by the end of the month.
April 2020 is likely to be warmer than average...at least to start the month. The official outlook from the Climate Prediction Center calls for above average temperatures across all of Central Indiana and the Midwest.
Temperatures are expected to be quite warm through the first half of April. Highs in the 50s and 60s will be common with 70s on a few occasions. The second half of the month is forecast to moderate a bit with some cooler air making a return.
We know April can be a wet month...they don't call them April showers for nothing. We typically get close to 4" of rainfall during the month. We even average .2" of snow! However, snow seems unlikely at this point.
The Climate Prediction Center outlook suggests slightly above average rainfall across the Hoosier State in April.
Although there are several chances for rain early in the month, the rainfall amounts are generally expected to be on the light side. The Climate Prediction Center says there's a high amount of uncertainty when it comes to our rainfall during the second half of April. We'll have to wait to see how more short-term patterns evolve.
