Let’s start with the good part of the weekend forecast. Unseasonably mild air arrives Saturday with highs warming into the 50s. Some spots could even reach the 60s late in the day.
The rest of our weekend is going to be rather eventful. More rain, in what has been a soggy month, is likely Saturday. A few strong to severe storms are also possible Saturday evening. Following the rain and storms will come a prolonged period of strong wind gusts. Let’s break down what we are expecting:
RAIN
Many dry hours are expected Saturday. The timeline shows wet weather building in from the south through the day. While our flood threat seems fairly low, any rain is potentially too much in a month where we’ve already picked up nearly four and a half inches of rain. Most areas should stay under one inch of rain Saturday. Some southern spots could see a little more.
SEVERE POTENTIAL
The Storm Prediction Center has taken most of Central Indiana out of the risk for severe weather. That said, there could still be a few strong to severe storms with gusty winds. The most likely time for any severe weather is between 3pm and 10pm Saturday.
STRONG WIND
Winds are expected to kick-up Saturday night and for much of Sunday. A High Wind Watch is in effect for much of Central Indiana 4am-10pm Sunday. Gusts are expected to exceed 40 mph, and could occasionally top 50 mph. Power outages and downed trees are a real possibility. It’s also a good idea to secure or bring in any loose objects you can.
