In a time when we can't all gather around a table, we can still come together as a community. We're Open Indy is a partnership between WRTV and our local restaurants and businesses with one goal: getting them through this tough time. Every day, we will help shine a light on the businesses that make up our community by telling their stories and rallying around those who are keeping the grills going, the hospitals running, and the businesses operating.

INDIANAPOLIS — Among the many needs Americans have amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the continuance of mail is on that list of necessities.

The UPS Store remains open to the public after being designated an essential business during the pandemic.

Services including shipping, mail and package receiving, printing, scanning, faxing, and notary are essential for not only residents Indianapolis, but small businesses.

That includes independent tech shops helping millions who are working-from-home right now.

"We had to act quickly and order several months of inventory to sustain our operations stateside, beginning in early February as our supply chain was disrupted by the initial spread of COVID-19 in China," Eric Farr, owner of two CPR Cell Phone Repair shop in Central Indiana, said. "Suppliers ran low as the primary manufacturers in China shut their doors for months, while many have yet to reopen."

The UPS Store is also helping make sure customers receive crucial health-related shipments, such as medications, devices, diagnostic or lab results, and unique dietary goods.

"The UPS Store recognizes that the health and safety of customers is the first priority," UPS' statement read. "Precautions implemented include social distancing and regular disinfecting/sanitizing within the store, especially for frequently touched surfaces such as doors, handles, computers, counters, etc. As a larger network, The UPS Store locations are following guidance from the CDC and WHO, along with all federal, state, and local health safety guidelines."

UPS wants to remind citizens that they still have control over their package deliveries.

Customers can use UPS My Choice to designate where drivers should leave their deliveries, redirect deliveries to another address, and receive notifications when shipments have arrived.

As well, members of the community who have essential items, such as the ones aforementioned, they want to be delivered to a personalized mailbox, can sign up online.
