INDIANAPOLIS – To acknowledge caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease, the Indianapolis Indians and the Alzheimer’s Association held a special celebration Wednesday.
Art Wachholz, a caregiver to his wife Heather who was diagnosed nine years ago, said spending time at Victory Field was something he and his wife loved to do.
“When my family moved to Indy, we started attending games for fun to keep the family tradition,” said Wachholz.
He said once his wife was diagnosed, everything changed and many of the baseball outings stopped.
“I had to cut back on work hours in order to spend more time with her. She doesn’t recognize anyone. She needs help with daily activity,” he said.
Now that Heather is no longer able to attend games, he said he appreciated the Victory Field event.
