SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding four motorcyclists believed to be responsible for a crash that killed a young mother in Shelby County last week.

Around 7 p.m. Friday, Shelby County dispatchers received reports of four individuals on two motorcycles driving recklessly on East State Road 44 near County Road 325.

The motorcycles, described as being "loud, cruiser-style" bikes, were each driven by a male with a younger female passenger. One of the females is believed to be a thin blonde, possibly in her mid-to-late 20s, who was wearing a fluorescent or safety green sweatshirt.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m., the motorcycles came upon a car being driven by 25-year-old Heather Poe, of New Castle. Based upon witness accounts, police believe their reckless driving may have caused Poe to brake quickly – causing her to lose control of her vehicle and skid into oncoming traffic.

Poe's car was struck by an oncoming vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger of the colliding vehicle were treated for minor injuries and released.

Police said the motorcyclists did not stop after Poe's collision, instead continuing westbound on State Road 44 and possibly then onto I-74.

Poe was a 2009 graduate of New Castle High School. She is survived by her parents Tim and Tammy Poe, her daughter Jocelynn Adkins, her grandparents and her sister, Holli Poe, as well as her companion, Adam Stout, and step-son Kollin Stout.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 317-398-6661 or 888-387-1444.
