WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Not only does Indiana Rep. Andre Carson think rapper Jay-Z could win the next presidential election, he thinks he'd be pretty good at the job too.

TMZ caught up with Carson after he saw the rapper’s “4:44 Tour” in Washington, D.C. on Thursday and asked him how he enjoyed it.

Carson gushed about the show and how much he loves the rapper's work.

“I love Jay-Z,” Carson said to TMZ in the walking interview.

The cameraman then asked Carson about entertainers in politics and how he thinks Jay-Z would do.

“Jay-Z would be awesome in politics. I think Jay-Z, I think P. Diddy, I think Damon Dash, Master P - they remind me of guys I grew up with from my hood. I grew up during the crack cocaine era and I think these guys show that if you believe in yourself, you network and you have a great team, you can be what you want to be.”

Carson praised the fact that Jay-Z grew up in a tough environment but still managed to rise to the position he's in.

He ended his interview by saying “Hova for President.”

Carson then did a follow-up interview with TMZ where he explained why he thought Jay-Z would be a good candidate president.

“We shouldn’t rule it out,” Carson told TMZ. “If you look at President Trump’s candidacy, a lot of people wrote him off and I think if you look at Jay-Z’s background, he’s an excellent businessman, he’s very thoughtful, he’s been open about his personal growth. Why not? I think we’re living in a different time where the American people are open to all kinds of possibilities.”

Carson went on to say that he doesn’t know if Jay-Z has any political aspirations but he supports the notion that he could someday run for president.

“That’s not to say some of my friends, Joe Biden, Corey Booker, Pamela Harris, Terry McAullife and others – Tim Ryan – aren’t formidable, but I think we should throw other people into the fray,” said Carson.

Carson said he thinks Trump’s biggest issue as president has been his impulsivity and not allowing the people around him who have experience to have any input.

“I think part of being a great leader is recognizing that you need people who are smarter than you around you to help make your presidency great or your organization great,” said Carson.
